About

Hey, I’m so glad you’re here.

Who I am

I am Jasmine Milbourne, a master’s student at the University of Georgia. I have a B.A. in Journalism with a minor in Sociology and a News Literacy Certificate. While in undergrad, I was in the Double Dawg program, allowing me to take graduate credit as an undergraduate student. I will earn an M.A. in Journalism and Mass Communication by May 2027.

Origin Story

I began my journalism career in high school, where I designed layouts and took photos for my school’s yearbook. As I progressed in those roles, I was quickly promoted to Editor and eventually Editor-in-Chief, where I oversaw all layout designs, edited captions and copies, interviewed people, communicated with the administration, coordinated events and much more.

From the yearbook class, I was recruited by my school’s newspaper (The Viking Journal), where I started to explore journalistic writing. I was promoted to Editor and then moved up to Editor-in-Chief for two years, where I edited articles, uploaded media, oversaw staff and completely fell in love with reporting.

Entering college, I joined the Pandora Yearbook, where I attended events around campus, gained extensive interviewing experience, and wrote copies for the official publication. In my third year, I served as the Copy Editor, where I edited every copy, delegated tasks and ran meetings.

In my second year, I joined InfUSion Magazine, UGA’s first multicultural publication. I write long-form stories for a diverse audience, research different aspects and edit articles. I served as a News Director last year, and now I am the Chief Copy Editor for the magazine.

With support from Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communication, I have completed internships in various fields. I was a Research Intern with the Northeast Georgian at the beginning of 2025 and a Court Reporting Intern with Baltimore Witness over the summer of 2025. I was also a writing intern for The Sitch Magazine, where I did fashion and culture reviews.

I was a Griffith’s Innovator for the Cox Institute of Journalism Innovation, Leadership and Management at Grady College. Through this, I worked with The Envoy Show in New York, creating a Substack newsletter and working on other innovative media ideas.

My senior year, I was an education reporter for The Oglethorpe Echo, a community newspaper in Northeast Georgia. Currently, I am a freelance reporter for Flagpole Magazine and am an incoming Investigative Reporting Intern for Mountain State Spotlight.

My Work

My work revolves around community journalism and connecting with the people I am covering. It is imperative to obtain a comprehensive understanding of the issues in the community, as well as every possible perspective. Finding stories in the benign details, highlighting the voiceless and underrepresented, are a few of the many missions I aim to accomplish.

As a multimedia reporter, I have a background in video and photo production, creating data visualizations, designing newsletters, tracking analytics, building websites, and marketing. I have experience in covering a plethora of topics, including poverty, diversity, fashion, culture and art, travel, criminal and court proceedings, opinion pieces, explainers, feature stories, and much more.

In the future, I hope to work in many different environments. As an inspiring journalist, my passions lie in covering underrepresented voices. Whether that’s breaking multinational news stories or writing about the local enterprise, it’s imperative that every voice has a chance to be heard. Feel free to explore my writing.
