Tumbling to Tradition

The University of Georgia Gymnastics team started its season with a GOAT. Stegman welcomed eleven-time Olympic Medalist Simone Biles for their home opener against Boise State in January. The Olympic Champion called the dawgs next to her husband, Chicago Bear Safety Jonathan Owens, for the official start to the 2025 season.

The team also welcomes their new co-head coach, Cécile Canqueteau-Landi, a former competitive gymnast and Bile’s former coach. Not only did the Gym Dawgs welcome two legends to campus that day, but they also beat Boise State by over three points.

Although the Gym Dawgs did not have the season they hoped for, the team is ranked 19 in the country according to the NCAA with five overall wins and one tie this season. Lily Smith and Ady Wahl, both sophomores, individually earned a place in the 2025 Women’s Gymnastic Championship. Wahl scored a 9.900 on vault while Smith earned a 9.925, with one judge giving a perfect 10, at the NCAA Washington Regional. Both are scoring higher than most, even on the collegiate level. The team finished their regular season ranked 10th in the country and 7th in the SEC.

The Gym Dawgs and their legacy continue to expand. Canqueteau-Landi announced three new additions to the 2026 roster. The coaches are excited about what this means for the team, and their hope for next season is growing exponentially.
