Dawgs on Top

Coming off a rocky season, the University of Georgia football team was not expected to do well in the SEC Championship. After surviving eight overtimes against Georgia Tech, Dawg Nation was hopeful they would pull through.

Against all odds, UGA won its 15th SEC championship title, second most in SEC history, welcomed a new starting quarterback, and won the first SEC title game to go into overtime. Despite trailing 6-3 at halftime and losing the starting quarterback, Carson Beck, to an arm injury, the Bulldogs recovered in the second half. With a championship on the line, UGA’s spirit led to a 22-19 overtime victory against the University of Texas Longhorns.

“We were more than just a second-half team,” said Fathiya Ally, a second-year Civil Engineering major, when asked about the game.  “We are the SEC. It just means more.”

After a tough battle in the quarterfinals, UGA fell to Notre Dame and earned sixth place in the national football ranking.

UGA sent off multiple players for the NFL Draft, including running back Trevor Etienne, who made the game-winning touchdown against the Longhorns. The Bulldogs are welcoming the third overall recruiting class for the 2025 season, giving Georgia fans hope for next season.
